Guesses Anyone?

Oh look! Its a...a...ummm...err...right. Anybody have any ideas what this is?

The house was far from empty when we purchased it. This happened to be in the garage on its side and was used as a shelf. It's made of wood. The picture above is the front. Or at least I presume it's the front. The three boards in the middle slide out completely and are grooved.

The holes throughout it are perfect ovals and extremely well done. The bottom of it is cut at an angle, which is why it is leaning so precariously.

At the top, written in neat handwriting across the four sections is Driver's left side, Driver's right side, Passenger's left side and Passenger's right side.

This is the back of it.

I'm utterly baffled. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

It comes to mind that it could be a ski-holding contraption that someone built to attach to the roof of their car. I don't have any evidence for this, other than the shape of the holes in it.

The only thing I see is that the holes look exactly like the holes in a gun cabinet to hold the stock of the gun - but don't understand the whole driver side, passenger side, etc. notation... let us know if you ever figure it out -gramma yori....

Could it be old enough to be a shelving unit in a wagon or something? I'm wondering if you have it on it's back and the slide outs are some sort of shelves also but it was a corner unit thing? Maybe for an old RV or something? Just throwing out some ideas...

I dreamt last night that it was a contraption to go in the back of a delivery van to hold flowers/bouquets. Oval shapes to prevent flowers getting squashed. And since the original owners/builders did own a greenhouse right next door.... *shrug* Maybe?
