A Lovely Rocking Chair...Sort of

The "treasures" that came with the house have yielded us a fortune in amusement. And no actual money. When cleaning out the attic I came across this very old, solid oak rocking chair.

It is upholstered in leather and looks like a good, solid piece of furniture. It had several boxes on top of the seat, which I removed and found this.

Technically, this is not the swastika, but I still don't think we'll be putting it out in the living room.

That design bit is... unfortunate. If it was in my house, I'd toss a thin cushion against the back and forget about it. If you want to go a slightly fancier route, I could see a bit of leather (with a thin piece of wood backing it) and a little bit of padding covering that slat nicely.

Wow- didn't see that one coming!

Ok, the no money is not quite true. Just today I got rid of that fake plant for $15 through CL!

That would be very popular here in Asia where they know that is a Bhuddist symbol and not the swastika since it's going the wrong way.
Besides, I'm far to distracted by your abundance of counter space and cupboards in your kitchen to notice the chair!

That symbol was used for a long time before the Nazis grabbed a hold of it. If we lived somewhere other than a culturally Western European country, I'd happily use it. Explaining this to everyone who visits the house though would be a major pain. More than likely we'll do as Christopher suggested - take a cushion or some upholstery and just cover it up.
